Research of SPRING alumnus published in the Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture
- SPRING
Francis Dakyaga, an alumnus of SPRING from the batch 2015-17 has published an article in the Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture. It is one of other upcoming articles from a second year’s master’s dissertation of the SPRING program that assessed accessibility of private-led water supply in the informal settlements.
The article draws attention to households and water sellers’ perspectives. It helps to understand how the plurality of water supply systems in the informal settlements of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, contributes to alleviating water access challenges, for example in the services and the water quality.
The overall goal of his research was to find a suitable water supply model that can alternatively address and improve the water access situation in the informal settlements.
During his research, Francis realised that the plurality of the water supply systems in the informal settlements contributes to increasing water access due to flexibility and different socio-economic groups but has little guarantee for improving quality of the water served.
