On Wednesday, May 24th, SPRING alumnus Tadesse Mengistu held a presentation on the Health Extension Program (HEP).

 

The Health Extension Program (HEP) is one of the most innovative community-based health programs in Ethiopia. Its purpose is to provide communities with health care services and improving overall health.

Since the start of the HEP, it has contributed to the nation’s recent gains in health outcomes, the health seeking behavior of the community has increased and the provided services expanded, among other things.

 

Tadesse Mengistu started the SPRING program in the academic year 1998/99 after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics from Addis Ababa University. He is a community development worker and currently works for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
