Seminar on Conflict Management in Spatial Planning
- SPRING
On May 7th and 8th Prof. Schmidt-Kallert (former Head of SPRING) led the SPRING Students through a mediation process using the simulation game of "Kwashe Industrial Zone and Kwashe Village – How can they co-exist in the Future?”
The simulation game provided a dynamic and interactive platform for exploring the multifaceted issues surrounding the coexistence of the various stakeholder groups within the Kwashe Industrial Zone and the Kwashe Village.
Students were assigned different roles with different interests and perspectives. They identified key criteria essential for the sustainable development of both the industrial zone and the village. The interests of various stakeholder groups were also mapped out, revealing the often conflicting priorities of local residents, industrial stakeholders and environmental advocates. Based on their research and stakeholder analysis, the students proposed three distinct solutions with different implementation times.
The workshop concluded with a presentation of the results, followed by a panel discussion featuring experts from each stakeholder group. The experts provided feedback on the feasibility and potential impact of each proposed solution, highlighting the importance of integrated and inclusive planning processes.
