Q&A

Application

Ideally, you should meet the following criteria:

  • You are in your 5th semester and wish to complete an ERASMUS semester in your 7th or 8th semester,
  • You are in your 7th semester and wish to complete an ERASMUS semester during your master's studies,
  • Or you are a staff member of the department.

The information session for the upcoming academic year usually takes place in November. After the session, the application portal MoveOn opens. You can then apply through the portal until December 23 for both the upcoming winter semester and the following summer semester.

Your motivation letter may include the following points:

  • Language skills (or your intention to take a university language course)

  • Academic focus areas that align with the host university’s curriculum

  • Extracurricular or interdisciplinary engagement

  • Specific personal or family circumstances

Please keep the letter to a maximum of one A4 page, using font size 10–12. The motivation letter must be uploaded together with your CV in the MoveOn application portal.

It is not recommended to list the following universities together in your top three choices:

Dublin, Lisbon, Newcastle, Thessaloniki, Turin, Valencia, Valladolid, and Vienna

Each of these universities typically offers only 1–2 places, but may receive up to 30 applications per place. To increase your chances of receiving a placement from your selection, please avoid combining these universities.

If you still choose to list three of these and do not receive a placement, we will be happy to review available remaining places with you. However, we explicitly advise against this combination to prevent such situations.

This list is not exhaustive and is provided for informational purposes only.

One semester abroad equals one ERASMUS+ placement.
If you spend two semesters at the host university, this counts as two placements.
Therefore, a full academic year abroad is only possible at universities with low demand or if the host institution offers you an extension during your stay.

In many cases, submitting your school leaving certificate (e.g., Abitur) is sufficient for the host university.

However, some universities require official (and paid) language tests, such as TOEFL, Cambridge, or IELTS.
Examples include:

  • Aalborg: TOEFL / Cambridge ESOL Test

  • Amsterdam: TOEFL / IELTS / CAE C

  • Volos: TOEFL / Cambridge / IELTS

This list is not exhaustive and is provided for informational purposes only.

You will typically be notified about the placement decision in January.
Please do not send inquiries; we will reach out to you proactively.

Yes, an extension is possible under certain conditions, for example, if there is availability at the partner university and approval from the home university.
