Application, Deadline and Requirements

General Information

  • The admission committee accepts the application documents as scanned copies via email
  • All applications must be submitted in English
  • Please note that all translations must be made by a certified translator
  • Make sure that documents in landscape format are already aligned horizontally.
  • If you need to sign a document, please print out the document and sign it by hand (wet signature). Then scan and send the signed copy. Digitally inserted signatures are not accepted!

Deadline

  • Application deadline for intake 2027/28 is 1st of March 2027, 23:59 UTC

Admission Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a field related to Regional or Urban Planning with grades significantly above average
  • A high standard of proficiency in written and spoken English (Please note: Only applicants from native English-speaking countries or who have studied in a native English-speaking country are exempt from providing an English proficiency test result. Applicants from countries where English is not the native language, but the official language or the language of instruction, still need to provide an English proficiency test)
    • TOEFL (TOEFL iBT score of minimum 95 under the old grading system / minimum of 5.0 under the new grading system) Please have your TOEFL-certificate sent to the institutional code 8523
    • IELTS (6,5) Only academic version is accepted!
    • WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER TYPE OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATES

Required Documents

  • The completed and signed SPRING application form
  • A typed and signed Curriculum Vitae in Europass format, including the date of signature.
  • Copy of all uni­ver­si­ty certificates
  • Copy of transcript(s) of records officially issued by the university highlighting all courses and grades as well as an explanation of the grading system
  • Explanation of grades (if it is not part of the transcript)
  • Original or copy of proof of English proficiency: Only TOEFL or IELTS; not applicable for native English speakers; see Admission Requirements above
  • Copy of A-level or high school certificate
  • For applicants with university degrees from India, China or Vietnam:  TU Dortmund University only accepts applications, if the complete application package with school certificates also contains the original certificate by the Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) of the German Embassy in New Dehli for Indian, in Bejing for Chinese and Hanoi for Vietnamese applicants.

Instructions for the Submission of Applications by E-mail

You are welcome to submit your application for the SPRING Program by e-mail. To ensure that your application is processed timely, send all required documents as soft copies in PDF format with a total maximum of 18 MB to the corresponding email address listed below.
You may also compress them into a zip file. Make sure that all scans are of good quality and readable. 
Use the subject “Application for intake 20xx” (e.g. intake 2027).

Please name and number your application documents as follows:

3b_Transcript of Records for all University Degrees
3c_Explanation of grades (if it is not part of the transcript)

If you want to attach further documents to your application, please do not number them.

Where to send your application?

Philippine, Ghanaian, Tanzanian, Brazilian and Chilean applicants must direct their applications to the respective SPRING partner universities: UP SURP in Manila, KNUST in Kumasi, ARU in Dar es Salaam, UFABC in Sao Paulo and UACh in Valdivia.

Special Information for German & European Applicants

The SPRING Master Program always welcomes applications from German and European candidates.

  • The SPRING Master is a consecutive program. It is open to applicants with a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a field related to Regional or Urban Planning with noticeable focus on developing/emerging countries or respectively developing cooperation.
  • It would be desirable to provide evidence of planning related working experience.
  • Furthermore the applicant needs to substantiate experience abroad, for instance through internships in the field of development cooperation (3-6 months).

For everything else, the requirements mentioned above also apply to German & European Applicants.
