Excursion to the UmweltKulturPark
- SPRING

The Environmental Management seminar concluded the summer term with a visit to the nearby UmweltKulturPark, located in the picturesque Rahmkebach Valley. This park was designated as a compensation area for university development and covers an area of approx. 12 hectares, offering a local recreational space. It also serves as an educational resource, showcasing how habitats can be interconnected for plants, animals, and humans.
The students could explore various land uses, including meadow orchards planted in so-called "sun traps," a vineyard, succession areas, and a permaculture garden managed by a local association. These features encourage discussions about individual contributions to environmental protection, wildlife conservation, and the significance of permaculture in addressing climate change and adaptation strategies. During the tour, students were introduced to indicator plants of riparian forests as well as diverse and sometimes ancient fruit varieties like medlars and tree species bearing edible fruits such as sweet chestnuts.
