Master Urban Transformation

Admission & Requirements

The M.Sc. Urban Transformation is a two-year Master’s program at the Department of Spatial Planning. The program is designed for highly qualified students who want to learn more about how cities and regions can change and develop in advanced economies. It focuses on innovative strategies for urban and regional transformation.

The program understands planning as an interdisciplinary field. This means that it brings together different perspectives and disciplines. Courses and projects connect international theories on structural change and spatial transformation with practical questions of governance in cities and regions.

Admission Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor’s or Diploma degree with at least 180 ECTS.

The degree should be in spatial planning or in a related field, such as:

geography,
urban planning,
or a similar subject.

Please note: Degrees in civil engineering are not accepted.

The Master Admission Board reviews each application individually. It decides whether the admission requirements are met. If the submitted documents are not sufficient to make a decision, applicants may be asked to provide additional documents.

Required documents

Highest school leaving certificate in officially certified copy
Overview of subjects and grades of the highest school leaving certificate in officially certified copy
Subject and grade overviews of your studies in officially certified copy
Officially certified copy of your degree certificate
Translations of all documents in German or English language by a sworn translator
Proof of sufficient language skills in officially certified copy
An academic CV detailing your academic and professional background to date, no longer than two pages, written in English
Proof of completion of the online self-assessment developed for this program.

The International Office of TU Dortmund is responsible for admissions of students who graduated at a school outside of the European Union.

Language Requirements

The Master’s program Urban Transformation is taught entirely in English. Therefore, applicants must prove that they have good English skills, at least at B2 level / C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

You can prove your English skills in one of the following ways:

with a German school-leaving certificate that qualifies you for university studies,
with an internationally recognized language certificate, such as TOEFL* or IELTS, or a comparable certificate,
by showing that you attended an English-language school for at least one year,
if English is your native language,
or if you completed a previous degree program taught in English.

* The TOEFL home edition is not accepted

The Urban transformation program only starts in the winter term on 1st of October. Application period:

For all applicants from non EU-Countries 15^th of March until 15th of May for the upcoming winter term
For all applicants from EU-Countries we strongly recommend applications until July 15th.

Notification of acceptance: End of July/Beginning of August
