Dear TU Dortmund Students and Researchers,
A lot of dimensions of your academic career – thesis and dissertation writing, promotion, funding, etc. – depend on how well you write. We would like to bring to your attention two workshops offered by the w.space, Department of Foreign Languages, TU Dortmund: Write your Way to your Career: Technical Writing, Professional Writing and Academic Writing for STEM Doctoral Candidates and Early Career Researchers.

Workshop 1 “Write your Way to your Career: Technical Writing, Professional Writing”
(#212220-S), 12.09., 13.09., 14.09., 15.09.2022 /09:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m./ online via Zoom and Moodle The workshop focuses on job application writing (CVs, resumes, cover letters, and letters of motivation), email writing, as well as an executive summary and abstract writing.

The workshop might be particularly beneficial to those who plan to apply to study abroad programs and internships or work internationally.

Workshop 2 “Academic Writing for STEM Doctoral Candidates and Early Career Researchers”
(#212218-S), 05.09., 06.09., 07.09., 08.09.2022 / 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. / on-site, room C1-06-427

This workshop will help you transition to the graduate-level standards of academic writing by addressing the following questions:

  • How do I write a publishable paper?
  • What are the typical language-related issues writers have to deal with?
  • Why do editors reject articles?
  • Why do reviewers reject papers?
  • What does a rejected paper tell us?
  • How do I meet the editorial objectives of the journal?
  • What are the criteria for a good article?
