Homelessness is a complex global issue that involves an interplay of various causes and consequences, thus inviting a contextualized response mechanism to deal with it. This lecture will present the findings of different studies conducted by the Guest Speaker and the collaborating researchers from HS Bochum to draw commonalities and differences of homeless people lives in Germany and Pakistan, with respect to urban health and multilocality. This also provides an insight into the varying levels of vulnerabilities, coping capacities and resilience of homeless people in the Global North and the Global South. A paradigm of inclusive planning character that is context specific and sensitive to the needs of homeless people with respect to their living and accessing social and healthcare services is recommended.

Dr.-Ing. Atif Bilal Aslam holds a Ph.D. from TU Dortmund University and is an Associate Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan. He is also an Advisor to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Disaster Resilience in Pakistan. His postdoctoral research experience comprises winning research grants, short post-doc stays at German uni-versities, several presentations at various national and international conferences, and peer-reviewed public-cations in the areas of homelessness, housing, urban mobility, resilience, and sustainable development.
