Job & Master's – combining study and career
Job or master's? You can have both!
At TU Dortmund University, the Master's in Spatial Planning is particularly job-friendly, allowing you to combine your studies with your career very well.

What makes the Master's in Spatial Planning job-friendly!
- No classes on Wednesday afternoons and Fridays
- Fixed framework for Module 2, otherwise lots of freedom
- Stay that way!
“Job & Master's” does not mean completing a full-time degree program while working full-time. The Master's in Spatial Planning offers you the opportunity to combine work and study in a balanced way. This is easily achievable for many people with a part-time job as a Bachelor in Spatial Planning and part-time studies. Part-time job + part-time studies = full flexibility

There are generally no master's classes on Wednesday afternoons and Fridays – perfect if you work alongside your studies. You can keep these days free for your job.
Module 2 has a fixed time frame: if you are in the Master Project or the Master Design Studio you should keep Monday and Wednesday mornings free.
All other lectures are spread out as widely as possible throughout the week—our students find this particularly convenient for combining their studies and jobs.
And that will remain the case: we will continue to offer a wide selection of seminars with flexible times!
You have the opportunity to write your master's thesis in cooperation with a company or public institution, e.g., your own employer. You should discuss the possibility of your employer supervising your master's thesis with the examination board at an early stage, as there are clear rules governing this.

If it is easier for you or important for your employer, you can also study for a master's degree in spatial planning on a part-time basis.

M.Sc. Spatial Planning in part-time
You can also study your master's degree in spatial planning at TU Dortmund University on a part-time basis. You make this decision when you enroll – it initially applies to the current semester.
As a part-time student, you normally take a maximum of 20 credit points per semester, which extends the standard period of study from two to three semesters. How you combine your courses and exams is up to you – you can be completely flexible depending on what is offered and what interests you. The Master project or Master Design Studio (Module 2) is scheduled for the first or second semester.
You will write your master's thesis (Module 4) over a period of four months alongside your studies. During this time, you will not take any further courses or exams. It is best to register your thesis at the beginning of the third semester so that you can complete your studies by the end of the semester.
