Please check the following information!

We are pleased to announce that the Programme Development Branch (PDB), at UN-Habitat’s Global Solutions Division (GSD), will hire 26 interns to start their post in the second and third quarters of 2022. We are looking for a variety of backgrounds and expertise (more info in the link below), including positions within our very own team, the Capacity Development and Training Unit (CDTU).

Due to the pandemic, the internship program will be hybrid: in-person for those who want to join the team on-site in Nairobi or in NYC, and online for those that wish to undertake the position remotely. This will continue to allow candidates from different sides of the world to have a first-hand UN experience, regardless of their personal conditions or ability to afford undertaking the position at the duty station. Our branch is also utilizing this as an opportunity to achieve geographic balance across the UN system and ensure that young professionals from under-represented countries join the organization. We ask for your help in reaching out to your current students and recent graduates.

As mentioned above, this is a collective call for candidates to be assigned within different teams across the Branch. PDB teams are somewhat aligned with the Domains of Change outlined in UN-Habitat's Strategic Plan. The team's key areas of expertise are as follow:

  1. Urban planning and social inequality
  2. Urban economy, finance, and digital technology
  3. Urban climate and the environment
  4. Urban migration, displacement, and resilience
  5. Project management, database management, human resources, communications, and administration
  6. Digital innovation for capacity-building, learning, knowledge transfer, and instructional design

These 6 thematic teams are seeking candidates with the following educational profiles:

Profile 1: Urban planning and environmental science:
Architecture, Engineering, Urban Development, Urban Planning and Design, Urban Policy and Governance, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Climate Studies, or related field.
Profile 2: Social science, international relations and interdisciplinary studies:
International Relations, Sustainable Development, Economics, Finance and Technology, Social or Political Science, Humanitarian Aid, Human Rights, Displacement and Migration, or related field.
Profile 3: Business management, public administration and social services, and computer technologies:
Public Administration, Project Management, Communication, Public Relations, Education, Human Resource Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics and Management, or related field.

Unfortunately, UN-Habitat is mandated to offer UNPAID internship positions only. Nevertheless, the GSD/PDB Internship Programme is committed to offering a life-changing experience through an immersive mentoring approach. While with us, interns will not only work on impactful projects around the globe, but also advance their professional competencies.

We are holding two info sessions on this recruitment process and the internship program at the UN-Habitat. Additional information on the scheduled sessions can be found in the registration links below:
