A lot of aspects of your academic and future professional careers depend on how well you can write and give talks in English

Dear TU Dortmund Students,

A lot of aspects of your academic and future professional careers depend on how well you can write and give talks in English. Our Academic Writing and Presentations Training Program has been created to help TU Dortmund students with these tasks.

We offer two credit-bearing C1 level writing and presentations courses (Academic Writing and Reading C1 and Presenting and Discussing Ideas C1), weekly 90-minute workshops, autonomous learning courses, and 1:1 consultations: https://cms.zhb.tu-dortmund.de/zhb/fs/de/Lehrgebiete/Akademisches-Schreiben-und-Praesentieren/Angebote-Englisch-als-Zweit-_Fremdsprache/index.html

To register for our credit-bearing courses, you have to fulfill the B2 level English language proficiency requirement. These courses invite you to work on papers and presentations in your own field by providing a framework that optimizes your writing processes. In addition, these courses allow for teacher and peer feedback on your writing.

There are no prerequisites for participating in our workshops, and registration is open to all TU Dortmund students until the workshop is full. Our workshops will provide you with tips and strategies for managing your writing at different stages and for working on different parts of your papers: introduction, materials and methods, discussion, etc. An interactive and dynamic setting of these workshops is a good place to start engaging with writing in a more efficient way. Consider joining the following workshops in April: Writing Introductions and Purpose Statements (06.04), Exercises for Writing a Methods Section (27.04), Make the Right Impression: Writing a Proper Email (01.04), and Giving Effective Multimedia & Oral Presentations (22.04). All short workshops will be taught via Zoom. Students on the waiting list can participate too.

If you need help with your individual writing projects, consider registering for our 1:1 consultations to discuss your writing or presentation with an instructor. All 1:1 consultations are offered via Zoom.

Hope you can join us, and best of luck in the new semester!
